We welcome back Merchant City Festival family day
This Saturday and Sunday, Merchant Square's courtyard hosts a family day of performance for Merchant City Festival, bringing dance, circus and live music to the square.
Highlights include King of the Birds, a folk-tale dance duet between a wren and an eagle, and Dreich, Drookit, Braw, a circus comedy fresh from the Edinburgh International Children's Festival following three acrobats battling the Scottish weather. Wig Waltz brings two flamboyant aristocrats to the courtyard in a witty, costume-filled pop-up show, while Bippity's wizard-like characters bring walkabout magic and clowning. Every Body Dance invites families and passersby to join a celebration of movement inspired by Soul Train.
Saturday closes with a fully accessible, inclusive ceilidh from the Celine Donoghue Band, welcoming all ages and abilities onto the floor.
The programme runs Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July, with free, drop-in entry throughout. It's a great spot to catch the performances, grab a bite from one of the venue's tenants, and make a day of it.
